Ideas for сходини: Halloween

Note: Lots has changed since I last worked with новацтво in 2004. One thing that I’m sure hasn’t changed is the scramble to figure out what activities to do during сходини, like what казки to tell and what games to play. Here’s my attempt in helping новацькі виховники figure out what to do on a weekly basis. Contact me if you’d like to contribute.

I know, I know—Halloween celebrations in Пласт can be controversial. That’s a topic for a whole other article. Instead, this is going to give some ideas on how to use the theme of Halloween for some fun in your станиця.

In the 90s-early 2000s, Chicago would put together a huge Halloween extravaganza. There were games, costumes, candy, and even a haunted house in the basement (which at the time didn’t need much to make it scary). Does your станиця do anything for Halloween?

This could also be a good time to talk about істоти, or the various creatures/spirits in Ukrainian culture. This would include лісовики, русалки, мавки, etc.
